Recent archaeological publications

A number of publications have appeared in recent months which include papers by ACS staff members. A paper on the excavations at Colp West, Co. Meath by Donald Murphy is included in Christiaan Corlett and Michael Potterton's Settlement in Early Medieval Ireland. This book also contains accounts of other excavations carried out by ACS including early medieval enclosures at Curraheen, Co. Cork and Leggetsrath, Co. Kilkenny. A second book by the same authors Death and Burial in Early Medieval Ireland includes papers by Linda Clarke on the excavations at Johnstown 1, Co. Meath (see our projects page) where some 398 burials were excavated; and Tara O Neill on the excavations at Parknahown 5, Co. Laois where a cemetery of 425 inhumation burials and a further 428 collections of disarticulated remains were excavated by ACS in advance of the M7/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill Motorway Scheme.

A paper on the M3 Motorway Excavations and Tara by Donald Murphy and Victoria Ginn is included in a new and very significant publication on the Royal site of Tara, Co. Meath. Tara from the past to the future edited by Muiris O Sullivan, Chris Scarre and Maureen Doyle has just been published (September 2013) and is available directly from Wordwell Books. For more details on these and many others see our Publications page.
