Knowth Farmyard Archaeology

Archaeological Consultancy Services were appointed in November 2012 as archaeological consultants to oversee the redevelopment of Knowth House Farmyard at Knowth, Co Meath. The Office of Public Works are currently developing the site to house a canteen, public toilets and an exhibition area. Excavations within the old farmyard buildings revealed the buried walls of earlier buildings and features associated with the use of the later buildings.   Topsoil stripping for a proposed new waste water treatment unit and percolation area revealed a number of undated ditches and cultivation furrows which are almost certainly associated with the post-medieval farm complex. Excavation work was completed in February 2013.
