Between September and November 2018, ACSU (with Archaeological Management Solutions) carried out resolution of five archaeological sites identified during test excavation services on the above road scheme. This work included part of a late medieval field system associated with a known enclosure (RMP WM013-095) and identified through geophysical survey by Target Archaeological Geophysics. The on-site works also included an Underwater Wade and Metal Detection Survey, an Architectural Survey and Townland Boundary Surveys.
Post-excavation analysis included radiocarbon dating, palaeo-environmental analysis of charcoal and plant macro-remains, osteological analysis of animal remains and specialist examination of lithics and pottery.
Details of all the excavations on the N52 road realignment are presented in an ArcGIS Story Map
