Archaeological Test Excavations
Our Services
Archaeological test excavations are generally carried out in advance of construction and are usually required by a condition attached to a grant of planning permission or a request for further information.
Advance archaeological test excavation is generally undertaken across the footprint of a development, where machine or hand-excavated test trenches facilitate the early identification of archaeological deposits. The results allow an informed decision to be made as to how best to deal with any discovered archaeological finds or features before construction work commences or planning permission is granted.
