During a recent excavation in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, ACSU were delighted to welcome children from Holy Trinity National School in Westport for a site visit. Excavation Director Ian Russell and his team showed them around and told them all about the prehistoric landscape and field systems. Then the children got to practice being archaeologists for a day—digging, sieving, metal detecting, drawing, recording and examining artefacts—some may even come back again to work with us in the future!
The excavation was undertaken on behalf of Mayo Council County and the school visit was funded by Burrenbeo Trust as part of their Heritage Keepers Programme. A big thank you to them and all of the school children, teachers and adults for making it a great day for learning all about archaeology.
