ACSU are delighted to contribute to an Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland video for Heritage Week 2023. Unlocking the story of prehistoric food storage provides an overview of the FOODSEC (Food Security in Bronze Age Ireland ) project, which is led by Assoc. Prof. Meriel McClatchie of UCD School of Archaeology and ACSU’s own Dr Kerri Cleary.
Achieving food security is a key concern in modern societies but the challenge of ensuring that food is available and accessible stretches back thousands of years. The two-year FOODSEC project is examining this question for Bronze Age Ireland by using new scientific analyses, research and experimental archaeology to enable important new insights into past practices relating to food storage. Watch the IAI video here.
The FOODSEC project is funded by the Irish Research Council COALESCE Scheme (2022–2024; Strand 1L INSTAR+; Project ID: COALESCE/2022/1623) and the IAI Heritage Week 2023 video was made possible by funding from The Heritage Council of Ireland.
